This poster is an homage to the Palestinian concept of sumud (Arabic: steadfastness, determination). The figure of a Palestinian woman spirals up Phoenix-like from the rubble of Gaza with the wreckage of the buildings coming together to (re)form her body anew. She looks over her left shoulder where in the distance the Dome of the Rock mosque is becoming visible as the dark clouds are replaced with daylight. Iconographically, her posture, attire and gaze combine to telegraph that the Israeli invasion of Gaza in 2014, though devastating, did not destroy the Palestinians as a people or their focus on, or will to, endure and return.
