United Against Racism

Artist's Statement: Hands are powerful. The hand with the pen symbolizes the writers, the poets, the journalists. I thought of Dareen Tatour who was arrested for writing her poem. The second hand with the handcuff is for the prisoners, still strong with the fist. The hand with the key symbolizes the Nakba, the refugees and their right to return. The hand with the olive twig is for sumud, the steadfastness, and also: the roots, the land. Hands are powerful, and even more powerful when we hold them, when we struggle together – united against racism. Cornelia Mitter - Vienna, Austria
