The Judge

The Judge is a Peabody Award-winning film that provides rare insight into Shari’a law, an often-misunderstood legal framework for Muslims, told through the eyes of the first woman judge to be appointed to the Middle East’s religious courts.
Judge Kholoud’s story reflects a collective struggle for women’s control over their bodies, economic welfare, custodial rights, and marital status and leaves viewers with a greater understanding of Shari’a and strong imagery of powerful Muslim women, while illuminating some of the universal conflicts in the domestic life of the Arab world.
