DYING to hear about your meeting with Emile...D-Y-I-N-G Inbox x Dan Walsh May 26 (2 days ago) Rochelle Davis May 27 (1 day ago) to me Emile Menhem was great. We met in his office in al-Akhbar. He had pictures of all the posters that weren't his and more that were his so I changed them all. Some of the dates are off, so I need to go in and change those. he only did PLO posters between 1976 and 1982. he talked about where some of the others were who he had worked with. he smoked A LOT of cigarettes. he said he's send some posters with you, but none of his old ones, because they got snuffed in 1982. I recorded the conversation and will try to write up my notes. R On Sun, May 26, 2013 at 11:26 PM, Dan Walsh wrote:

Am I making lots of work for you with Emile's responses? I hope not. I really appreciate your assistance. Shokran jazeelan! So...to proceed: 1) Can Emile look here and confirm that these are his posters: http://www.palestineposterproject.org/special-collection/emile-menhem If there are any there that are NOT his, please send me the url and I will remove them. 2) Here is the Fatah Special Collection. Does Emile see any of his works in there? If yes, please send me the url (the web address of the page at the top that always begins "http://www..." (This is REALLY important because sometimes people try to describe the poster or just send its title which makes it REALLY hard for me to locate) http://www.palestineposterproject.org/browse/special-collections/11 3) Does Emile have any copies of any of his (or other artists) posters that are not in the PPPA? If yes, we would love to add them. In other words, does he have a personal archives of his work? 4) Is he in touch with any of the artists from the Plastic Arts Section from back-in-the-day? If yes, we'd love to be able to contact them. Email addresses are best. OK...that's all for now. tadamon, Dan On Sep 30, 2011, at 8:30 PM, Hicham Safieddine wrote: Hello Dan, Sorry for my late reply. I spoke to Emile. The proper spelling of his name is Emile Menhem He was actually aware of the project and wanted to respond to your email but he doesn't speak good english. In addition to his posters, he said he could identify some posters for others. Here is how we can proceed. Kindly send or resend me the link with all the works you think are his. He will then single out those that are not his and identify any he has and then I will email you with results Best Hicham On Sat, Sep 24, 2011 at 8:33 PM, Dan Walsh wrote: YOM SAID! Thank you Hicham this is such great news. Once Emile and I are in touch I can correct any errors in his posters and also the spelling of his name. Zeina and I have corresponded. When you see her next tell her I would love to hear about her virtual library project. shokran jazeelan, Dan On Sep 24, 2011, at 1:28 PM, Hicham Safieddine wrote: Dear Dan, I'll gladly speak to Emile on Monday and get back to you. I'll also ask him about the proper spelling of his name. Many thanks for the project of collecting these posters. I should put you in touch with Zeina Maasri who works on history of posters and is I believe planning a virtual library. She wrote a book chronicling posters of Lebanon's civil war. (There were several spellings on the different posters but I found one that I think he wrote himself so I changed everything to that spelling: Menhem) Here is the new one: http://www.palestineposterproject.org/special-collection/emile-menhem I also wanted to say that I appreciate both yours and Dorothee's willingness to help me in this effort. best, Dan Walsh -- Hicham Safieddine Managing Editor al-Akhbar English Beirut, Lebanon Tel: 001-961-01-759500 ext: 504 english.al-akhbar.com email: hsafiedd@gmail.com This electronic transmission, including any accompanying attachments, may contain information that is confidential, privileged and/or exempt from disclosure.
