For reasons I don't understand someone Photoshopped out the Hebrew letter in the poster above. As I see it this confirms that in its original form this was an election poster for Herut. Herut Movement was established in summer 1948 and existed as a political party of that name until 1973. On that year it merged with the Liberal Party. The new party is called Likud. I am familiar with this practice in the Palestinian wellspring...sometimes a group wants to hang a poster because they respect the person/idea/action depicted in the poster but they are at odds with the publisher so they cut off or paint over the logo. Here is one example: http://www.palestineposterproject.org/poster/no-surrender I will send you more as I come across them. Yoram E. Dan Walsh 10/16/11 to Yoram Yoram, Yes...I see your point however, for the two posters we are looking at, one Israeli and one Palestinian the destruction is a bit more nuanced than that of the Taliban or the Christians in the sense that both posters were only very selectively altered...the artwork was respected in both cases. Only the political affiliation/publisher's logos were effaced. Not the whole thing. This is not an insignificant difference, no? Yoram E.
