This poster from 1975 was issued to announce the inauguration of ETZEL street and ELIYAHU HAKIM (from LEHI) street in Haifa. The ceremony held in June 8, 1975 (the date of execution of Shlomo Ben Yosef Betar hero) with participation of Knesset member MENACHEM BEGIN, two years before Begin elected for the first time to be Prime Minister of Israel. This poster measures 58x42 cm, blue ink. VERY GOOD condition, never been folded, small fold in the lower right corner. Eliyahu Hakim was Lehi member, together with Eliyahu Bet-Zuri assassinated Lord Moyne in Cairo, they were both hanged in Cairo on 22 March 1945. Their remains were brought to Israel in 1975 and reburied on Mount Herzl with full military honors

1) I see what I think is the Irgun logo on the poster...is that actually Irgun or just a general Revisionist logo?

(Maybe it is the logo of the "Veterans of Irgun" or some such group cause I know the Irgun was disbanded in 1948)

I'm pretty sure you're right here. The emblem is based on the Betar emblem which is a map of Greater Palestine (the map of both sides of the Jordan, which creates the background; they don't recognize the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan).

I don't think this is a veterans group, it seems to announce itself as the emblem of the Irgun itself.

2) What do the large Hebrew words at the top right say?

Right: Haifa; just to the left an a little elevated: Blue (actually, Azure, to be more precise)-White

3) Is there ANY mention on the poster of LEHI?

Yes there is. On top in the small letters there is reference to naming streets in Haifa after "Etzel [the Irgun], Lehi, and their heroes"

I see what looks like an artists' credit on the lower left...I REALLY want to buy this poster but the price is too high.

How much? Great poster. I think you'll want a comprehensive translation. There's some fascinating stuff going on here.

thanks,
