Text from catalog:
The young man and woman dressed in uniform with rifles on their shoulders no longer look like pioneer-defenders, and could be in a military unit. These figures are echoed in the male and female soldiers on the poster produced by the Cultural Department of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for the Army's first Swearing-In Day of the Israeli Army in May 1948. In the State of Israel, born out of the War of Independence, the new Jew was fashioned in the image of the warrior.
