Hi Dan,
I finally got a copy of my book to Yossi Raviv and asked him our questions regarding “Growth Vs Siege”. His answer (and some other interesting information):
1) He is not sure if the poster “Growth Vs. Siege” is the work of his father. On the one hand, he says the fonts are not typical of his father’s work. On the other hand, the letter “aleph” (א) was the letter of the political party Mapai, and his father during the same years was a photographer and graphic artist for the Mapai. And the aleph is similar to that which was used in other Vorobeichic placards (he corrected me not to call them posters, but rather placards. He says he needs to know which print house produced it (and whether the name was in the margins but got cut off) and where you found the picture in the first place (do you know?). So in the meantime, you probably want to leave it as “attributed to”.
2) Yossi also corrected me regarding the name. He writes that his father used the name “Moi Ver” only for his photographic work and never in Palestine/Israel (it was primarily his pseudonym he used in his photography school in Paris). Once he moved to Israel he went exclusively by “Moshe Vorobeichic”, which was his name during his childhood in Vilna.
3) Lastly, Yossi pointed me to the new website of a photographic historian who is now taking care of the Moi Ver/Moshe Vorobeichic/Moshe Raviv photographic archive (which includes information that doesn’t exactly match up with the information above about his name and the issue of posters/placards). You may be interested in including the link where relevant: http://nnperez.com/moi-ver-archive/.
I hope all of this helps!
Kind regards,
Daniel.
