Kayla Jean Mueller was a humanitarian aid worker from Prescott, Arizona. She was taken captive in August 2013 in Aleppo, Syria, while leaving a Doctors Without Borders hospital. She worked with international aid agency Support to Life.
ISIL confirmed in a private message to her family that she is deceased, but there was no clarification of the details of her death in the message. On February 10, 2015, National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said that this message was authenticated by the intelligence community. President Barack Obama offered his condolences to the young woman's family.
