A Love Story

Artist's Statement:

This artwork is inspired by a photograph by Patrick Robert in 1988 during the first intifada. It was a mass uprising against the ongoing Israeli brutality towards Palestinians and expanding illegal settlements. It was sparked by an Israeli truck colliding with a civilian car, killing four Palestinian workers, three of whom were from the Jabalia refugee camp.

This photo reminds me of the words of Frantz Fanon in Wretched of the Earth: “For a colonized people the most essential value, because the most concrete, is first and foremost the land: the land which will bring them bread and, above all, dignity.”
