Good Morning Vladimir,

I got your jpeg and note. I understand that you want the original, un-retouched image that you created to be added to the PPPA site and the airbrushed poster to be removed.

I will add the jpeg you sent to the site but I cannot remove the airbrushed poster.

Why? Because the PPPA has a policy of never, ever removing any image/poster once it is up.

This policy came into being several years ago as a result of numerous and continuous efforts on the part of Zionist/Israeli groups to force me to un-publish posters they felt were unflattering or unhelpful to Zionism or which could be used to subvert some Israeli or Zionist claim.

I had one famous incident with Yeshiva University in NYC (where I went to photograph their collection of posters from the Soviet Jewry series with the written permission of the Yeshiva Univ. library) which even eventually involved the Georgetown University legal office but in the end I won and the posters remain at the PPPA site to this day. See them here:

The PPPA is an artist-centered resource. I always take the artists' side in any matter. And I want to do that with your request as well. I understand that you don't want to have the world see your work in its altered/Photoshoped state. I get it. But since it was actually printed and is in a national collection I can't allow the precedent of taking an image/poster down from the site. My goal is to create as comprehensive an archives as possible of the poster heritage of the Palestinian people and this includes even those posters that have been altered.

What I CAN do is this: I can publish your text about the airbrushing and I can link that poster to the jpeg of the original image you sent. This will explain to the public what happened and demonstrate that the PPPA does not censor.

What do you think? I am heartsick at the idea of disappointing you.

Dear Dan

I understand your explanation and salute your integrity - an archive is an archive.
I suggest the following: No need to mention the airbrushing business as that provide material to Zionists propaganda about anti-Semitism - as I mentioned I have no idea who made the changes - I remember seeing it on a magazine back cover it could have been any group or an individual at the printers.
However for several reasons, not just the airbrushing, it is an ugly poster typography and design wise and I do not want my name associated with it.
Why not move it to the Fatah section? That would cover both our needs.

Under my painting you can use the caption to Fig. 1 here:

I will be happy with that.
Where is your archive physically located? Its a grand life-work!

Best wishes
