Israeli appointed mayor of Nablus, assassinated about 3 months later on 2 March 1986.
Masri money is behind an-Najah. there are now Zafir al-Masri buildings, auditorium and a cultural foundation. Was there for the funeral, quite a turnout. Don't remember him being that well liked when mayor, but then maybe I was hanging out with the wrong crowd...
