Hello Ann,
I am the archivist of the PPPA and I am writing about the above poster from a fund-raiser at Sandino's in 2009.
Do you have any copies left? If yes, would you consider sending them to us? We think its an important piece of contemporary Palestinian-Irish history and we would like to include it in the permanent Archives.
in solidarity,
Dan Walsh
Why We Ask For Print Copies of Posters
The PPPA asks for printed copies of posters for a number of reasons, including to:
1) Place copies in major museums, university collections, national archives and other art preservation and cultural heritage sites
2) Legitimate the genre
3) Validate, for research purposes, that the poster has been printed
4) Preservation/Conservation
The PPPA regularly presents duplicate copies of its Palestine posters to: Georgetown University’s Special Collections Library; the Library of Congress; the Middle East Library at Columbia University and a host of other institutions. The PPPA has also exchanged posters with the Jafet Library at the American University of Beirut, the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam and the Museum of Design Zurich. We are seeking to expand the universe of institutions that house/exhibit Palestine posters and if you know of any that might be interested please let us know via the Contact form at the PPPA site.
Rock the Casbah at Sandinos
Published on Tuesday 5 May 2009 06:12
Rock the Casbah - a special fundraiser for Medical Aid for Palestine - takes place tonight, May 6, at Sandinos Back Room.
Playing at this worthwhile charity event are one of Derry's finest emerging young bands, Future Chaser, as well as performances from Ivory Cutlery, Tackleberry, Connor Kelly and DJs
Why the urgency to hold this event, you may ask?
Well, touched as they all were by the terrible tragedy in Gaza all these musicians and performers sought an immediate and practical way to send help to the people of the area. Medical aid for Palestine was an obvious choice and so 'Rock the Casbah' offers everyone the chance to pitch in and do their bit for a more-than worthy cause.
Award winning Derry band Future Chaser have amassed sonsiderable acclaim in recent years, beginning when they won the coveted RTE School of Rock crown. As well as that, they've had airplay on RTE2 and even played the Oxygen Festival last summer.
Ivory Cutlery is a hilarious combination of surreal poetry and music from Frank Rafferty. Connor Kelly is already one of the North West's most prodigious young musicians and is currently recording his debut album. Letterkenny based 'Tackleberry' have been honing their musical talents at the North West Regional College and are already a huge success on the Donegal music circuit.
The night will be completed by a great rock and ska set from Love Music Hate Racism famous DJ Dee Dee Vicious AKA Davy McAuley and emerging DJ Peace Frog (a great gift from France!)
This a night not to be missed and a chance to do something great for those less fortunate.
Come along and show your support. Doors open at 9.30pm. Admission 3 or donation.
