Sale 1924 Lot 56 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. Group of 4 posters. 1977, 1981, 1982, 1987. Sizes vary. Condition varies, generally B+. Paper. In 1911, March 8 was declared "International Women's Day" at an international socialist conference held in Copenhagen. The United Nations first celebrated International Women's Day on March 8, 1976. These four posters are all from the San Francisco and Bay Area of California. Estimate $400-600 Hi Dan, I remember you, but not the solidarity meeting. i think I saw you last with Lincoln Cushing at his house. Yes it is my image. It was done in 1987, as it says on top, not 1977. And it is a Palestinian woman (tho I did not have to depict a Palestinian, I chose to). The image was commissioned by a coalition. The type on the bottom says: "Co-sponsored by the Alliance Against Women's Oppression and Casa Puerto Rico." The image was printed by me at Mission Graphica. I have not done any other Palestine posters. I don't know the others in the series. I did do another poster - "Working Women, We Can Shut This Country Down" also for another International Women's Day. And one or two other IWD posters in different years (not significant works) but I don't know if this is what they meant or if the Palestinian poster is also part of 4 posters that they commissioned that year. I may have only two or three of these posters left. Have to check. I'd be curious how much that poster went for at the auction. I don't have a website yet (will soon), but this link is the closest. http://www.apiculturalcenter.org/events/2005/fullcircle/HomGallery.html Happy New Year! Anyway, I am a student at Georgetown now and writing my thesis which is actually a website/archives of Palestine posters. I came across this poster at the website of a NYC auction house and thought I recognized it. Its your, right? It is a Palestinian woman in the poster, right? Have you done any other Palestine posters? Is it from 1977? Can you tell me who the publisher was? (It is written in the lower right hand corner but I can't read it) The auction site said it was a four poster series. Did you do the other three? Do you have copies of this poster? I tried to find you on the internet and found ANOTHER Nancy Hom....Doug gave me your email. If you have a web site and you want me to link your site to this poster I would be happy to do that.
